Tactical turn-based online role-playing game
Inkbound is a turn-based RPG that offers an open-world environment wherein players can battle online against challenging yet beautifully rendered enemies. Note that this RPG offers both single-player and cooperative game modes.
At the heart of the game lies the overarching objective — to save the stories contained within the magical Atheneum. Each book serves as a portal to a strange world filled with its own set of threats and challenges. Inkbound has been created by the team at Shiny Shoe, who are the very same developers responsible for the success of Monster Train.
Portals to other dimensions
Players exist within a fictional realm known as Atheneum. This environment contains books associated with different mythical stories. Unlocking these books will allow users to travel to different worlds and encounter unique challenges.
Class-bound builds and upgrades
There are several character classes to choose from, and each can be equipped with a plethora of skills. It is also possible to unlock new talents via the use of an in-game skill tree. Thus, Inkbound offers a fair degree of resource farming within the levels themselves.
Becoming part of a team
The co-op nature of Inkbound allows players to join teams of four when traversing different environments. Doing this is an excellent way to obtain even more power-ups. Such a strategy is often wise when fighting powerful opponents.
The Rise of the Unbound update
Inkbound has just unveiled its highly anticipated 1.0 update, titled Rise of the Unbound, and it’s a game-changer. This major expansion introduces a plethora of exciting new features, quests, and challenges that elevate the gaming experience to new heights. At the center is the brand new final boss, The Unbound. To reach it, players must embark on a fully-voiced narrative questline, delving deeper into the mysteries of the Atheneum and its inhabitants.
In addition to the new boss and questline, the 1.0 update launch also brings a host of quality-of-life improvements and gameplay enhancements. Players can now enjoy skippable animated cutscenes, a reworked narrative, faster progression, and full controller support, enhancing the overall accessibility and enjoyment of the game. Additional keyboard proximity interact options and improvements to the Steam Deck experience further improve the experience, particularly for those playing online co-op.
Furthermore, the update introduces challenge buffs on Villains and Guardians. There are also 25 new Vestiges and five new Vestige sets that expand the customization options, allowing players to create unique combinations and strategies. With a total of 242 Vestiges and 37 sets currently available, the possibilities are virtually endless, with eight trillion potential combinations to explore.
Top-down action and exploration
Similar to Might and Magic Heroes VI, the fluid nature of Inkbound provides a great deal of excitement. When combined with highly detailed graphics and plenty of realms to explore, the result is a game that is easily on par with other respected RPGs. Within its open-world environment, players can immerse themselves in battles against beautifully rendered enemies and into the depths of single-player campaigns or join forces with friends in cooperative game modes.
